After Cuba’s revolutionary dictator Fidel Castro died today, Dunedin Labour MP Clare Curran absurdly called the dead tyrant a “legend”.
Does she not know that Castro banned all independent trade unions? Or that worker’s strikes were illegal? Or that Cuba is rated 171st for press freedom, and has the worst media freedom in Latin America?
What about his 15,000 political executions? Or the torture of prisoners?
I was pretty sure the Labour party stands strongly for workers rights and human rights, but the admiration of a tyrant like Castro suggests otherwise.
